Fathia Balgahoom - Teacher Emphasizing Inclusivity and Self-Expression

Fathia Balgahoom is a New Jersey educator who recently spent three years teaching social studies and special education classes. Creating engaging and culturally relevant lessons, she tailored materials to meet specific student expectations and needs. Through the use of creative activities, Fathia Balgahoom fostered in-class collaboration. She worked with the Child Study Team in evaluating student progress and modifying education plans.

Ms. Balgahoom earned her Bachelor’s degree in History at Montclair State University in 2022 and achieved academic distinction, receiving the History Department Merit Scholarship and the Gary Tamarian Memorial Scholarship. Gaining clinical experience as a student teacher, she volunteered as a student mentor through the newly created Bridgemen Believe Mentor Program. Ms. Balgahoom is currently attending Rowan University and working toward a master’s in Special Education and Inclusive Practice.

Fathia Balgahoom’s pedagogical experience extends to two years as a summer teacher’s assistant with Apple Tree Preschool in Westwood. In this role she assisted the lead teacher and led groups when teachers were absent. She also actively encouraged open communication between parents and members of the staff.
